White Gold and Platinum Rings

White Gold and Platinum Rings

The more usual metals used in wedding rings are sterling silver and gold: 9ct gold, 18 ct gold and 22 ct gold. The higher the ct, the higher the percentage of gold. White gold, which is an alloy of gold and other metals, is another great favourite for wedding rings. It gives the appearance of platinum but is lighter in weight. Titanium, used as an alloying agent with other metals, is also very popular for wedding rings. Titanium rings are durable and usually less expensive – and they have the added advantage of being less likely to cause allergic reactions. Platinum is a very rare metal which weighs heavier than gold – and it takes a superb jewellery craftsman to work a band in platinum. Needless to say, platinum rings are almost always more expensive than gold rings.
